Hi All,
Thanks for all the comments on the release version of RIP. We have addressed the reported issues and uploaded a new build (v. 1.06) to the web site at http://toorcon.techpathways.com/uploads/rip.zip
The update addresses the following issues:
1. Right click menu item "Start Scan" in the tree view is now disabled when the discovery is disabled.
2. Added the ability to retrieve hotfix information via WMI if Registry read fails.
3. Rip.exe will now automatically run as administration with a properly credentialed account on Microsoft Vista.
4. Enable issue for scan icon on tool bar for network discovery has been corrected.
5. RIP uses several methods to collect remote information which can affect the collection and display of information from the local system based on its network connection status. These methods include reading from registry, WMI and API functions. The following Table identifies the current collection method for each type of information collected.
Feature Method of implementation
-------- ------------------------
Services Only SCManager
Installed Applications Registry
Hotfix Information Registry & WMI
Running Applications WMI
Open Ports API, but, network is needed
Users Information API
Network Shares API
Disk Volume Information WMI
Note that use of WMI can collect information from the local system without network access, while any registry approach requires network access to function.
