Has anyone had difficulty acquiring images larger than 80 GBs?

I can easily acquire 80 GB drives across our network, but attempts to acquire a 120 to 160 GB drive always result in disconnected connections. For example, If I deploy an agent onto a 120 GB drive and begin an acquisition, the process starts and runs for approximately eight hours. The timer indicates roughly three hours remaining but the timeout box appears and the connection is dropped.

(Typically, I can image an 80 GB drive across the network in roughly 8-9 hours)

I can ping the source computer, and the firewall and network teams tell me there are no timers preventing the lengthy acquisitions. I am having a sniffer applaince installed to monitor the actions more closely but I was wondering if I may have missed something in my configurations or process.

    Any ideas?

I am operating in a Windows 2003 server environment and have used both 2000 and XP as my agent deployment and acquisition computers.

    Scott,

Firstly, I’m sorry for taking so long to get back to you. You caught us all traveling today.  There really isn’t enough information to troubleshoot your issue yet, but it sounds like you are on the right track putting a sniffer on it. We have no known issues with larger systems as you mentioned, but obviously the larger the target drive, the more time it will take and the more the likely hood issues can arise.

A couple of other things to consider are the specifications and configuration of the remote target system.  The design o four remote agent opens and closes a lot of connections on the remote system which over time can become demanding on a system with less resources. The registry tweak file installed in the root ProDiscover installation directory when run on the remote system will ensure the TCP/IP performance will support the increased buffer needs over time. Taking a look at the network data flow and packet shaping will also help give a better understanding as to what is happening.

Please feel free to call us or email directly to support @ techpathways . com too and we will be happy to assist. I would also be interested in knowing which version of ProDiscover you are using.
